Macramé Plant Hanger
Hi Everyone!
Welcome back! I have a cute project for you tonight. A coworker asked me how I made my plant hangers the other day, so I thought, why not make a post about it! It came out super cute, and I have been enjoying it so much.
Here’s how I did it…
I started by cutting eight strings of a 3mm macrame cord. I made each strand 7 feet long. Then I folded the eight strings in half and looped them through a ring.
I’ll do my best to explain the pictures… deep breath… okay… You want to grab the center point of your folded strings. Thread the middle point through the ring and then fold it over itself. (kind of like closing a laptop). Then, pull all strings through the loop (laptop lid). Keep pulling strings through until you reach the ends. Pull both the ring and all the strings at the same time, and it will tighten up.
Not so bad >.< haha
Next, we are going to create a half knot. Take four strings and lay two straight to the middle and two off to either side. You want to take your left string and lay it over the two middle strings creating a four (4) shape. Then take your right string and put it under the two middle strings making a backward four, but this time pull that string through the belly of the first 4. You can’t leave the first 4 behind, so pull this string through the backward 4’s belly too. Pull both left and right strings (like pulling your shoelaces tight) and it will tighten up nice and snug.
This might not make much sense in writing (or maybe it does), but really follow the pictures step by step. I promise you can do it. Now that we have created our first half knot, we will do it 13 more times! Ready… Set… GO….!
You can see it kind of twists on itself as you go! Now that you have all 14 half knots done, we will do it with all the other strings. Grab 4 more strings and follow the pictures.
You’ll end up with something like this !! Take it slow; there is no rush to this! This is supposed to be relaxing and fun. And if it isn’t … well try again, homie, practice makes perfect !!
Now that we have all our twists done, we are going to make another knot! Layout two twists side by side. With your left hand, grab the middle string and right outside string of your first twist, and with your right hand, on your right twist, grab the middle string and the outside left string. Now make the same half knot from earlier, you know, the one that you did 56 times already !! Except, this time, we only need two half knots. Overachiever.
We want to pull the knot tight but ensure it stays about 6 inches away from our twist. You want to do this to all four sides. (Make sure to keep each knot the same distance away from your twist.)
When you are finished with all four sides, it will look like this! You did all the hard work!! From here, it’s all easygoing!
I gathered all the strings together, giving about ten inches of space from our last knots, and knotted them all together! (It’s just a knot, hunnyyyy… don’t overthink it!)
It’s time to give this project the finishing touches. I added a chain from the ring we have our strings on to another ring (to help hang our planter hang from a ceiling hook).
Now you are technically finished!! However, I went a step further! I like sparkly things… sooooooooo!!
I got sparkly beads from Michaels Craft Store and strung up three different length strands. I used a little fishing line (town boy me for having a fishing rod in my car) and attached them to the bottom of my planter.
Okayyyyy are you ready to see the final product?!?!?!?!
I’m so happy about how this turned out. I’m so happy to share it with everyone. I posted on my Instagram a video showing the planter too!! I hope that you guys try this project! Please tag me if you decide to, and comment below if you have any questions or want to say hi!
Until next time,
Heather
